Maintenance & leather

WHERE DOES LEATHER COME FROM?

Castelijn & Beerens works with Italian tanneries in Tuscany and Veneto. We have been working with some tanners already for decades, which guarantees a constant quality of leather. The development of new types of leather for our collections is a creative process and is done in concert with these tanneries. Each skin for the leather that we have made in Italy passes through our own hands in order to ensure the outstanding quality of our most important raw material.

We use leather from the neck, half skin and groin from cattle and entire buffalo hides for our collections.

Chrome tanning or vegetable tanning can be used to produce the leather, or a combination of chrome with a vegetable retanning.

In general, chrome-tanned leather is softer and more supple, while vegetable-tanned leather is harder and has more character. This way we can give each of our different collections a unique character.

THE LEATHER SHOWS SMALL SPOTS AND BUMPS, HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?

Leather is a natural product; small spots and bumps, such as insect bites, neck folds and small color differences underline the authenticity of the leather. Absolute colour fidelity of leather cannot be guaranteed. This is mainly caused by bright sunlight. Please prevent long term exposure to bright (sun)light.

HOW CAN I BEST PROECT AND MAINTAIN MY PRODUCT?

Leather is a rich and durable natural material that only improves with age. Treat it well and you will enjoy it for many years.

Bags

Leather can dry out in use by, for example, dry summers and heated areas. Make sure that you do not place your bag on or against a heater. Regular maintenance keeps the leather flexible, water repellent and it will extend the lifespan of your product. To keep it clean, supple, water repellent and conditioned we recommend the care product Carbon Wax Spray.

We recommend the bag after a rain shower to rub dry with a soft cloth to prevent any stains.

Use your C&B protective cover to optimally protect your leather backpack!

Read the information about each collection / type of leather for recommendations about maintenance and repair.

Wallets

The leather of wallets is fed by the oils from your hands during use and gains a beautiful protective patina, so it is not necessary to apply an extra protective layer to wallets.

IMPROPER MAINTENANCE

Treatment of our products with aggressive maintenance products or other than recommended will void the warranty.
